Romanticum // Experience Exhibition

Romanticum is a permanent exhibition about the German Romanticism Period in the city center of Koblenz. The visitors experience a three-dimensional sound trip to the legendary Rhine Valley covering the entire exhibition space, where they acoustically cruise on a 19th-century steamboat. Boarding at dawn at the awakening harbor, steering along the river banks, and into the magical night hours spellbound by Lorelei, a famous local female water spirit, the sonic journey provides a humorous backdrop to the exhibits and informative text presented in the exhibition. THE SOUND OF THE MOUNTAIN developed the technical concept for the spatial audio system, and MNTN was used for the production of spatial audio content.

The loudspeaker system on site was designed with 58 loudspeakers and 5 subwoofers. These are invisibly installed around the entire exhibition space and on the ceiling. Some loudspeakers are transducers mounted onto the built scenography. The entire soundtrack is synchronized with the scenographic lighting.
